An Empty Plot of Land focuses on an illusion of the home, be it a tent or bricks & mortar. Independent, yet interconnected scenarios, reveal domestic spaces as the site where a complex range of values converge as they are re-fabricated within the parameters of their control. Closing doors. Moving curtains aside to reveal the city through a gritty window. The darkness, the rubble, feeling one's way in unfamiliar surroundings, enhanced by music, voices, interviews. The inside & the outside, the particular & the broad view. The public, the private. The personal & the political. Safety & violation. The architectural spaces contrast against a framework of interacting sequences portraying occupied public land, revealing the potential threat of fragility in an illusion, be it internal & utopian, remembered & romanticised, or future & fantasized. A space caught between time & history, absence & presence, existing in a state of suspension, from a space of shelter to a space of threat.
