Christopher Steadman

Christopher Steadman is a British artist who lives and works between Berlin, Ibiza, London, and New York. He works across video, sound, photography, text, and installation, often creating multi-screen environments with layered, fragmented, and immersive experiences.

His practice centres on memory as a fluid, evolving system shaped by cultural and environmental forces. Themes of solitude and social belonging run throughout his work, with a focus on time, space, and duration. Through the interplay between moving image and physical installation, he explores how individuals make sense of their own and others’ existence.

Steadman’s work has been exhibited widely across Europe, the United States, Taiwan, and Russia, including at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, where he received the Juror’s Award; the St. Petersburg Digital Media Art Forum; the Krasnoyarsk Symposium of Media Culture; the National Centre for Contemporary Art in Kirov; and the Vyatka Art Museum. In the United States, his work has been exhibited across multiple venues and galleries in New York City, Miami, and at the Center on Contemporary Art in Seattle. His moving image work has also been presented at international art fairs and film festivals, including the Moscow International Film Festival and the Berliner Liste.

He has received numerous awards and grants, including a British Academy Arts and Humanities Research Bursary and support from the Austrian Federal Chancellery, and has held fellowships at Yaddo, MacDowell, and Château La Napoule.

He studied in New York and London, receiving a Master’s in Photography from NYU/ICP (International Center of Photography) and an MFA from Central Saint Martins.
